Natural Healing: A Well-Being Recipe

Daisies Summer Still LifeIt’s a beautiful day and I’m feeling playful, (for those of you who know me you’ll know this is a common occurrence). But, Spring has finally sprung and there is so much natural bounty to behold.  So, in keeping with the wonders and healing powers of nature all around us below is my 10 Natural Medicines recipe to your bon health!  Serving rewards?: ongoing and replenishing! 🙂


NATURAL MEDICINES:  A RECIPE FOR WELL-BEING


INGREDIENTS

Several parts Water (H2O)                                          Generous helpings of Laughter

Generous helpings of Oxygen                                     Adequate doses of Sleep

Plenty of Good Nutrition                                              Regular Exercise

Sufficient amounts of Sunlight                                    Adequate amounts of Socialization

Several parts Reflection                                             Sufficient doses of Visualization

DIRECTIONS

Water is the first medicine; all living creatures are hardwired to survive and are meant to thrive- humans are no exception! Water is good for your skin (problem skin often being an indicator of internal imbalances), digestion, moods and cognitive functioning; every cell in our bodies requires H2O. Drink plenty!

Oxygen = Breathe. Take deep breaths pulling your navel inward until the count of 10 when you are stressed or upset, (angry, anxious, fatigued, sad, panicked, overwhelmed). Practice at work, too. Oftentimes we don’t even realize we are holding our breath when we are focused or under pressure.  It is difficult to think clearly, make sound decisions, problem solve and/or take the space to process your emotions when you are not getting enough oxygen.

When you are eating well, regularly (good diet and nutrition) and taking care of your uniquely beautiful body (including personal and dental hygiene), you feel better about yourself, the world around you and are more positive and productive. It is a wonderful expression of self-love.

Sun to skin contact and fresh air: direct sunrays on your skin increase serotonin levels, uplifting your mood and mental acuity.  Serotonin (a hormone released by natural light) is converted to melatonin after dark, a hormone which aids in producing restful sleep. Sufficient amounts of sun + Plenty of fresh air + Good sleep = FEELING GREAT!

Inner reflection such as journaling, meditation, discussion groups/forums is essential to continuous personal growth. Knowing who you are, where you’ve been, who has gotten you to the “now”, what lessons you’ve learned and how you desire to relate to the world around you are all elements of self-awareness and self-worth. Reflection looks inward, ultimately moving us forward with the insights we’ve gleaned. What is it that you want to offer in service? What goals do you have? What resources are in your personal toolbox? Let your Light shine, it’s the best gift you can give to yourself and the world!

It’s not a cliche, laughter it is one of the best medicines.  I generally notice when I haven’t smiled or laughed enough throughout the day.  Laughing and smiling redirects your mindset, puts things in perspective, promotes relaxation by releasing pent up stresses and lifts your mood and the moods of those around you. Remember to laugh at yourself (we are after all curious and entertaining creatures); smile at a stranger today- it feels good!)

A good or poor night’s sleep impacts your moods and overall cognitive functioning. Sleep well and regularly through establishing a healthy sleep hygiene.

Exercise. Walk, run, stretch, cycle, dance, swim..the options are endless. You are a physical being- YAY! Regular, healthy movement helps you maintain muscle mobility, is refocusing, alleviates stress and muscle/fascial tension.

Socialization: spending time with friends and family, club/group memberships and participation, team sports, public events- conferences, concerts, openings, etc. are all ways you can stay and get connected.  We are social beings needing to not only connect with ourselves through reflection, but with others as well- oftentimes through laughter. And, we are all born into families, neighbourhoods, communities. You are a part of community. Yes, there is “unity” in community (social, spiritual, emotional, financial and/or biological connections), but there is also “I” in community; the individual offering and in need of healthy connection. The more we relate with one another the more we all grow lovingly. Create and enter the families and communities which honour and encourage your light and growth.

Visualization (daydreaming, goal setting and planning, strategizing, journaling, lucid dreaming) aids in actualizing and manifestation; alongside action and intent it is the foundation for turning your goals and aspirations into reality.
